When Will I Be Loved?!

So here I am lying on the floor in the corner behind the copy machine and two of my servants come in to clean my room and they ask, "Lulu, what are you doing over there?"  But then do they wait for an answer?  No, because they are so focused on their cleaning!  I have only myself to blame for that because of how well I've trained them!  So . . . they don't know why I am lying in the corner, but I'm going to tell YOU!  I went over there in this very private place to have a pity party!

And why, you ask, would Lulu, the most important and beautiful cat at StreetCats need to have a pity party?  I have certainly never been cheated, nor mistreated!!!!  But I still have to ask "When will I be loved??!!"  When a new human comes in that I want for mine, he or she always breaks my heart in two.  It happens every single time!  Yep, I'm in my room running this place and I am so busy that the human I have my eye on doesn't even notice me!

Now I HAVE been made blue, because I have been lied to!  The paper here at StreetCats that has my information on it says that I was abandoned.  Now do you expect me to believe that??!!  I am the prettiest, smartest cat at StreetCats and I have, hands down, the very best purr!  (If you don't believe me, just come listen.)  Fate may have led me to StreetCats because I am so needed here, but never in the whole wide world would anyone have abandoned me!  Now my information also says that I am about ten years old.  Well, I have never told anyone here my age so I don't know how they would know, but I will tell you that I'm old enough not to cause any foolish problems for any humans!

So I'm going to let you look at me again so that we can talk about what color I am.  Oh, my servants can discuss that for the longest time!  Well, tabby, they say.  Maybe gold tabby with some brown patches?  One says I am the color of a squirrel!  Now I did have to laugh at that one!  And of course you know how beautiful my eyes are . . . we've talked about that before.  And I use both dark and light eye liner, very unique!  And my purr!  Don't forget my purr!  And I am not one bit boney like some cats!  Nope, not boney at all!  Just soft and furry!

Okay, I'm going to stop my pity party now.  I know all my servants love me, they really do!  And I know they appreciate how well I run this place.  Still, a furever human, someone who I would see every single day and with a bed where I could sleep with them instead of by myself?  I know, I know, count my blessings, and I do have many.  But, tell me, WHEN WILL I BE LOVED!

Epiphany!

I have had an epiphany!  You know, that's when all of a sudden a lightbulb goes on in your head and you suddenly get something you didn't get before!  These special moments are so often followed by "Well, duh!" because you feel you have just realized something you should have known maybe forever!  So it is sort of a neat moment and also an embarrassing, I sure feel stupid, moment!

I'm going to tell you about my epiphany, but first let me set the stage with this picture.

This kitty's name is Zoey and she is sitting right outside my room at StreetCats.  As you can see here, there are chairs along the hall outside my room and she hangs out in these chairs most of the time.  Well, I at first thought that she hung out there in order to be close to me.  That just makes sense, right?! I mean I'm surprised all the cats don't hang out right outside my door.  It also crossed my mind that perhaps she sat here waiting for the humans to finish their chores and sit down with her.  They do sometimes sit here when they finish their work and she climbs on their laps and lets them pet her and brush her.  This makes sense, too!

And then I had my epiphany!  Not only is this the spot right by my office and is the place where a cat can count on having some TLC from the humans, it is the spot in the shop where a cat can sit and watch the front door.  And then all of a sudden I got it!  Zoey isn't sitting here to be close to me!  And, although she loves her StreetCat humans, she isn't sitting here just to get attention from them either!  She is sitting here waiting for her family to walk through that front door and then through the screen door where she is waiting.  She is so patiently waiting and I believe she is saying to herself, "Will they know the minute they see me?"  "Will I recognize them right away?"  I wish they would hurry!  Okay, I'm not going to cry!  It is too hard on my beautiful eyes!

Zoey is really a great cat!  She is about five years old and she has long hair.  In the spring she had a haircut (they call it a lion cut) and her hair hasn't completely grown out yet.  She has very nice green eyes and is, as you can see, a beautiful champagne color.  And she is so nice to our humans!!!  They pet and pet and she never loses patience with them!  Some cats do, you know!  But not Zoey!  I have never seen her nip or scratch!  She is so pretty I just have to show you another picture!  Look at the shape of those eyes . . . not as pretty as mine, of course, but still special!  I think she does a great job with her eyeliner!

Reader, do you think you might be Zoey's new furever human?  Now that I understand why this beautiful kitty sits where she does, it is breaking my heart!  Oh Zoey, I'm going to really try very hard to see that you get your wish soon and your special someone walks through that door!!!  You, beautiful, sweet girl, deserve the best home ever!!!

Good Ole Gal!

As I've told you before, my room gives me wonderful access to hear everything that's going on at StreetCats.  One of the fun things I do is listen to the humans who come in tell about what kind of cat they want.  Sometimes they want a little kitten (yuck!) and we don't have those (thank goodness!).  Sometimes they want a young cat that is almost a kitten (which is bad enough!).  Sometimes they want a specific color of cat or a specific breed.  Often they come in and say they want a lap cat, which reminds me that I need to give my cat readers another lesson on how to manipulate, I mean love, their humans!  Sometimes they're looking for a cat who looks like the last cat they loved.

Occasionally someone comes in and says they want just a good cat to keep them company.  Have you heard the people around here (and in Texas, too) use the phrase "good ole boy?"  Well, that means someone who is just a nice, uncomplicated, helpful, undemanding human.  Oh sometimes I hear some pretentious people use the word in a pejorative way, like good ole boys are beneath them or something. But that's not what I'm talking about here.  I'm using the term in a completely complimentary way . . . everyone just really likes them!  And when a human comes in and asks for just a plain nice companion cat to keep them company, that's what I think of.

The cat that we have right now that qualifies for the role of good ole boy is actually a good ole gal.  Her name is Purrcie and she is about 2 1/2 years old.  She is at StreeetCats in need of a new home because her owner died.  Isn't that just so sad!  I'll tell you some really neat things about Purrcie, but first here is a picture of her.  Wow!  What pretty colors for a good ole gal!

So here is the most special thing about Purrcie, I think.  She is a totally undemanding cat!  She never asks for anything extra.  BUT, if you want to do extra for her, like pet her and love on her and brush her, etc., she'll let you!  If you kiss her, she'll kiss you back!  Cats often want everything to be their idea (which I completely understand), but not Purrcie.  If you want her to just be nearby, she will just be nearby.  But if you want to snuggle, just give her some pats and before you know it she'll be snuggling with you!  And she isn't skittish AT ALL!  On Thursday they bring a steam monster into the shop and it makes noise and spits steam and is just a general nuisance.  Last week they put the machine right next to her and she didn't even care!  And if she is on the cat tree when it needs to be moved for cleaning, she doesn't care!  She just takes a ride and doesn't complain!  I've never seen her be finicky about what she eats either!  She is just really a good old gal!!!!

So if you are a good ole boy or gal yourself and you want a cat to hang with, well, there she is!   This is such a good ole gal that I'm actually thinking about adopting her myself!  Ha!!!

Almost Perfect!

Now remember, it says "almost" perfect.  Because we know, of course, perfection is not easily attained.  I sometimes hear the humans says that no one is perfect and, when I hear that, I look at them with my big eyes and meow "really?"  Have you forgotten me?!  Well, if I'm not perfect I'm more than "almost" perfect, although I'm not sure how I would say that.  Maybe perfect most of the time.  But that's not what I'm talking about here. I'm really talking about a cat here at StreetCats who is almost perfect!

And that cat is Jerry!  And here he is!

Oh my gosh!  Look at that sleek, black fur and those shiny gold eyes!  One can't credit this perfection to Jerry, of course.  He obviously just has good genes.  And part of why he looks so great is because my human servants have learned to feed us the very best food!  I taught them!  But of my goodness, isn't he pretty?!

Jerry is also a lot of fun!  He is curious and active and he loves to play.  He is sweet and loves all the human servants and all the cats!  He just makes himself at home and enjoys life!  I bet he even loves dogs!  (I'm not sure if that is part of "perfect",  however!  And I'm just guessing because we don't have dogs at StreetCats.)

Part of his perfection can be credited to me, of course, because I teach my cats how to behave themselves.  When you adopt a cat from StreetCats you get the benefit of a cat who has had excellent Lulu training.  You can get that nowhere else in the world!  Here is an example of what I'm talking about.  This is Jerry waiting his turn to drink out of the faucet.  Now don't worry, my servants give the kitties fresh, cool, clean water every day, but for some reason they like this faucet.  I allow it because, well, this is a way for the cats to learn their manners.  See how nicely Jerry waits his turn?!

Okay, now it is time to tell you why Jerry is only "almost" perfect.  Well, Jerry has some communication issues.  I've tried and tried to help him with them, but he just isn't getting it!  As I said, Jerry loves to play!  So when he decides to play, he just does it!  He seems to be totally unable to understand when the cat he wants to play with is saying "I DON'T WANT TO PLAY!"  I mean it doesn't matter how loud they say it, he just keeps playing!  So the servants are always having to retrieve him and redirect him to a cat who does want to play.  It can be a real problem and the cats who don't want to play get very upset!  I've explained to them that he can't help it, he has special needs, but they want me to do something about it.

So here is what I propose.  I propose that you, reader, adopt Jerry and take him to his furever home.  Do NOT take him to a home that has a cat who does not want to play because if I, Lulu, could not teach him about this communication skill, no one can!  He will torment that poor kitty!  Take him to a home with a zillion toys for him to play with or with another cat or dog who wants to run and play with him.  Now we have a couple of cats at StreetCats right now who like to play with Jerry.  You could maybe save money on toys by just adopting one of these cats, too!  Now that's a pretty cool idea!  (I'm good at cool ideas!)  Jerry will keep you busy, but your rewards will be great!
