Newly Annointed

Well, well, well . . . one never knows what one might find!  Since that Vanna left (I did not like her at all, by the way) I've been occupying the office at night.  In my case, curiosity did not kill the cat but it sure has made for some interesting reading!  I discovered a blog!  What, you might ask is a "blog?"  Well, blog is just a colloquialism for a web log.  A man named Peter Merholz decided that instead of saying web log all the time it would be easier to just say blog.  He did that in 1999, before I was even born.

So this is the first time I've encountered a blog.  Now they don't just happen by themselves.  Someone has to create them.  And I have learned that this blog was created by a cat!  Now I never met this cat, but she was very spunky and I think I might have liked her.  That's a definite "might."  She had a lot of cat confidence and that's a good thing.  She knew herself to be the most important cat at StreetCats.  This cat's name was Lulu and she fancied herself a teacher.  She also had a high opinion of her eyes!  Well, okay they are pretty, but did they really deserve all the attention she gave them?  What do you think?

Well, Lulu got adopted and on her way out the door she appointed Janie as the cat to continue her blog.  Now Janie's story is not a typical cat story.  She did not recognize that the humans were her servants and she thought they were angels.  Disgusting!  But I can sort of understand her view of things.  Janie had a rough life and if it weren't for StreetCats she'd be pushing up daisies right now!  She was rescued by one of the volunteers, Katie Spring.  I don't pay much attention to the humans around here, but I think I'm going to have to seek this one out and take a look.  Perhaps she really is an angel!  Janie lives with Katie now and I've never seen her, but here is what she looked like when she wrote the blog.

Now keep in mind that it took me a long time to read this blog.  This cat writing has been going on for a couple of years now!  And in addition to what the cats have written there has been a human interloper who writes something called Feline Friday.  I couldn't figure out at first why this was allowed, but I have to admit she gets some pretty darn good photos of us cats.  I'll show you some she took of me in a minute.

So I'm reading along feeling really sleepy and I come across a picture of the next cat blogger.  Holy cat!!  Man, if I were several years younger she and I could have made beautiful music together.  What a looker!  Her name is Toots and no wonder someone wanted to adopt her.  Bring her back!  And who cares what she had to say!  She doesn't need to talk at all as far as I'm concerned!

And then Vanna.  Didn't like that girl, didn't like her at all!  Her and her stupid contests!  Pinkest ears?  Really!  Best manicure??!!  Oh my gosh, I'm glad she's gone now . . . and not just because I now have the office!  I think she got herself adopted because she knew who the rightful royalty of StreetCats is!  Oh okay, I'll show you her picture . . . and then we can just all forget her!

So there you have it, the four cats who have written this blog.  Well, now there are five!  Yes, I've decided to be the fifth cat blogger for StreetCats.  But I am not just a blogger!  If Lulu could declare herself the most important cat at StreetCats, then surely I can reveal myself as the royalty that I am.  I am now the King of StreetCats!  My name is Truman, but you may call me Sire.  Now I'm going to show you a couple of pictures of myself.  But I'm tired so that's it for now.  I will write again soon and will tell you some things about myself.  I will also tell you what new laws I've decided to enact.  I haven't decided yet if I will be a benevolent king or a tyrant.  I'm thinking I might be more comfortable with tyrant, but we'll see.  Maybe a little of both!  So here I am!

So if you see me, bow down.  I'll let you know what else you need to do later!

Feline Friday - Cooper!

Cooper is absolutely delightful!  He is full of spunk and likes to play with everybody and everything!

He is a tan and white little guy under a year old and has not been declawed.  He came to us after showing up on the porch of a nice person who could feed him but was unable to keep him.  Fortunately for him and for us, he made it to StreetCats.

He is a friendly and affectionate kitten that gets along with everybody, including kids and dogs.  And as you can see, he gets along with other cats, as well.

He is totally healthy!  He has had all of the tests and vaccinations that he needs and is ready for a new home.  He is micro-chipped and when he goes to his new home the owners contact information will be added to it.  Also the first year's registration will be paid for by StreetCats.

If you are interested in meeting Cooper, feel free to come by StreetCats at 6520 E. 60th St, in Tulsa, 10:30 - 5:00 Tuesday though Saturday, or call our message line, 918-298-0104 with any questions that you may have.  We would love to show you around and introduce you to Cooper and I’m sure that he would love to meet you, too!

Feline Friday - Alice!

We have a new kitty in the shop!  She's the first new addition to the group this new year, 2015!
She is gorgeous, she is a long haired tabby, and her name is Alice!

She is a youngster at only 1 yr. old.  She has been a little shy so far in the shop.  There's a lot to get used to in it with so many other cats and lots of new people.  Her foster parents report that she is playful, friendly, and affectionate. We think that she'll get along with other cats, and possibly kids.  We don't know about her like or dislike of dogs.  I have personally noticed that she is not fond of photographers with flash attachments.  She came out of hiding to use the kitty facilities so I took the opportunity to block her hiding places long enough for me to take a few pictures.  No smiles for me today!

She is wonderfully healthy!  She has been spayed, has been given all of her tests and had all of her shots.  All of StreetCats kitties are microchipped with the new owners contact information when they are adopted.  Also, the first year's registration is paid for by StreetCats.

Final Decision!

Well, there is nothing like a new year to get one off dead center and headed in the right direction.  Oh I know, I've been talking about being adopted ever since I came back to StreetCats a year ago.  Do you remember my story?  The human who originally adopted me from StreetCats couldn't take care of me any more and she was so sad!  Well, I was, too!  And even though I talked a lot about wanting to be adopted after I came back, well . . . and then, well, I sort of changed my mind because of the incompetency of the humans running this place (remodel?  please!) and . . . well, it just never happened.  But that's all water under the bridge, right?  No need to dwell on the past!  And even though I still question the ability of these humans to really run this place in my absence, sometimes one just has to do what's best for oneself!  Right?!  So I glanced up at the calendar a few days ago and saw that 2015 was about to begin and I decided, no hesitancy this time, to be adopted!  Of course I could have, and would have, been adopted any time I wanted if I'd really tried.  I can't clearly explain what was holding me back.  Sometimes, you know, you just don't really get it.  But somehow looking at that calendar just did the trick, provided the motivation, kicked me into gear!

So here is what I did!  First I took a very good bath!

And then I positioned myself in such a way as to be sure potential adopters would notice my most beautiful green eyes.  Here, I'll show you!

Perfect!!  Okay, so here was la paix de la resistance!  Oh wait, not everyone speaks French.  In English that means that I made a plan to provide the final piece in my preparations to be applied when the perfect adopter arrived, the thing that would complete the picture and that could not be denied.  Of course I knew that would be soon because, well, I'd decided!

And sure enough, in she walked.  I spotted her right away!  Oh my gosh, she was just as perfect as I am!  And here's the funny part!  She was actually looking at another cat!  Can you imagine??!!  So here is where that paix de la resistance comes in.  The human sat down and guess who climbed up in her lap?  Me!!!!  Yep, that's what I did!  Now who, anywhere, anytime, could resist that.  And I sat there and I sat there and I sat there, determined that this human would not get up and leave until she had decided to adopt me.  And she petted my soft fur and I purred!

And then, of course, she decided to adopt me and I decided to go home with her.  I couldn't go right away because if you adopt a cat from StreetCats you have to have references checked.  And of course she needed to go home and make my new home perfect for me.  And that gave me time to say good-bye to my StreetCats humans.  Linda Duckworth is one of my best humans!  I think she'll miss me, don't you?  But, you know, "should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind."  She'll be okay.

And soon that special day, December 31, 2014, arrived . . . the day I would go home to my new forever home and awaken the next morning to welcome the bright, shiny, new 2015!   And it is from there that I write this farewell blog entry.  All's well that ends well, huh?!

Oh yeah, one more quick thing before I move into my new life without StreetCats blogging.  Here is a book recommendation for you.  Check out Fun and Games for Cats by Denise Seidl.  Maybe I'll get it for my new mom!
